The meeting with ILGA Europe had been gone around the following topics:•How the Shortbus team came together was explained to ILGA. •The aims of the Shortbus was explained to ILGA. •The political statue of Northern part of Cyprus was described to ILGA. •Evelyne Paradis, a member of ILGA, explained that in some of the EU member states, more that one organisation may work together and agitate for the rights of Leasbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex, LGBTI, while in some of them, only one organisation may be constituted to protect the rights. •ILGA was informed that the map drawn as a guide for LGBTI people prepared by ILGA is not covering Northern part ofCyprus. In the map Cyprus was presented as one state in which being LGBTI is legal issues- that is not the case for Northern part of Cyprus. Discussions:Homo-phobia •The workshop in which Evelyne Paradis and Lilit Poghosyan took part, the ways to fight against homo-phobia were discussed. First to inform LGBTI and then to inform their friends, families and relatives have been approved in consensus. While overcoming the homophobia, the primary ways are determined as below: To publish booklet including the answers of the questions, who we are, what is our aim, to who and how we want to help. To design a web page following the aspects and characteristics of the ILGA’s one To achieve the article(s) of the existing law prohibiting LGBTI’s rights to be changed. To gain this with smooth ways such as informing people. •ILGA informed the Shortbus team about the proceedings taking place in Balkans. It advised that the ways against the phobia which were used in Balkans are much more suitable than those ways used in the EU. RESULTS of this meeting:•To expand the vision and raising awareness about human rights and LGBT Equality and sustain this awareness to our society. •To analyze the history of struggle against ‘homosexuality’. Especially within the special case of Balkan Countries. •To analyze the prevention mechanisms of a LGBT RightS Organization, against ‘homophobia’ and sexual discrimination. Especially within the special case of Balkan Countries. •To analyze how these mechanisms have been formed. •Preparation for the ILGA Europe Annual 2009 Malta Conference was done. •Links with those people with who were contacted for the Conference were established. •Shortbus group was added to the ILGA Europe’s network. lga Avrupa ile gorusme:
